After 20 years organizing the Emerald Isle Parade, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street (DLSMS) was presented with an opportunity to re-imagine its annual celebration, traditionally held the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day, and is proud to unveil a new community event called Shamrock the Block.

The community is invited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day one day early this year at Shamrock the Block on Saturday, March 16th in Downtown Lee’s Summit. The block party kicks off at 10 a.m. on SW Main Street, right in front of ReeceNichols Lee’s Summit, the event’s presenting sponsor. Families can enjoy live performances, kids games, food trucks, candy, and more until Noon.

DLSMS has kept the momentum going and cleverly sprinkled some of the magic of the parade into Shamrock the Block. Attendees can take part in two rounds of the beloved Gold Coin Hunt at Howard Station Park. Lads and lasses aged 8 and younger can line up at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to participate in this race to find green and gold coins. No registration is necessary. Businesses, clubs, and organizations can also purchase a booth to decorate their vehicle and hand out candy on SW Main Street. For more details on how to participate in Shamrock the Block, visit www.downtownLS.org/events.

“Downtown Lee’s Summit has always been such an iconic place for families to make memories with their kids. We’re excited about this new event and the opportunities it will provide for residents and their families to continue to build upon those amazing memories.” said Donnie Rodgers Jr., the organization’s Executive Director.

The Strother District’s annual Emerald Isle Pub Crawl will take place on Saturday, March 9th, the weekend before Shamrock the Block. Visit their site for more information to participate.
