Update on Downtown Days 2021
At this point in the pandemic recovery, it is not yet safe to host our largest community event, Downtown Days. Downtown Days is traditionally held the first full weekend in June, and attracts nearly 90,000 people to Downtown Lee’s Summit. This annual celebration features a carnival, live entertainment, vendors, and more. It takes more than six months of planning and hundreds of volunteers to bring the festival to life. We must be certain that an event of this magnitude would be safe for our volunteers, vendors, and attendees. We look forward to being able to gather again in June of 2022.
Downtown Days is not only a beloved community tradition but also the largest fundraiser for Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 1989 to lead and support the revitalization efforts in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Proceeds from Downtown Days have made it possible to host dozens of family-friendly programs each year, including the Farmers Market, Music in the Park, Fourth Fridays Art Walk, Mayor’s Tree Lighting, and Small Business Saturday. Festival proceeds also allow our organization to support small businesses in Downtown Lee’s Summit and continue to promote and preserve the heart of our community. Without the festival revenue, financial contributions from our community are especially vital. Please visit downtownls.org/support to find ways that you can support our efforts.
The Lee’s Summit community is the reason why Downtown Lee’s Summit is an award-winning downtown, recognized in 2019 as America’s Great Neighborhood. Thousands of volunteers have helped transform a struggling downtown into a thriving business district and made it a place we are lucky to call home. Volunteerism and community pride will drive our revitalization efforts as we plan for 2021 and beyond. As we continue to follow guidelines from local health officials, stay tuned for details on future events from Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street at downtownLS.org/events.
