Improtant Information for May 16, 2015 Events
This Saturday, May 16, there will be several events taking place at City Hall, 220 S.E. Green St., in downtown Lee’s Summit. From the opening of the City’s time capsule, to a historically-themed bike ride, these events help celebrate Lee’s Summit and its 150th birthday. Below is important information about each one of these events, including road closures.
- Big Truck & Equipment Show, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Kids of all ages can climb up into the driver’s seat of some of the City’s biggest pieces of equipment and watch live equipment demonstrations. The event includes a bounce house, face painter, food vendors and more. Visit LSpw.net for more information. Please note: Green Street, from Third Street to just south of the City Hall parking garage, will be closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
- Opening of the Centennial Time Capsule, 10:30 a.m. in City Hall Plaza: The Centennial Time Capsule was buried in 1965, and now it’s time to see what it’s inside! KMBC 9 News Meteorologist Erin Little will host a brief ceremony before the contents of the time capsule are revealed.
- Art & Artifacts Fair, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: View historic artifacts inside City Hall in celebration of Historic Preservation Month. The contents of the time capsule will also be on display.
- Ride the History: Time Capsule to Museum (historically-themed bike ride), 1:45 p.m.: Kids are encouraged to decorate their bikes and adults are encouraged to dress up in vintage costumes. All types of bikes are allowed, including vintage bikes. Parents will ride/walk alongside their kids. The bike ride will begin at 1:45 p.m. on the south side of City Hall, travel west on 3rd St. for approximately a ¼ mile, and end at the new location of the Lee’s Summit Historical Society Museum, 220 SW Main St. The entry form with waiver form for the bike ride is due by the time of the event. Please note: The northwest section of the intersection of SE 3rd St & SE Green St will be briefly closed for the event. The southeast portion of the intersection will remain open. The northeast portion of the intersection of SW 3rd St & SW Main St. will be closed. The southwest portion of the intersection will remain open. There will also be a barricade placed just north of 220 SW Main St. for the duration of the event. The alleys along the route that intersect SE 3rd St will also be closed. The bike ride is only expected to take 20 minutes.
