Music in the Park Kicks Off May 22
The Music in the Park concert series kicks off at 6:15 p.m. Friday, May 22, with the popular Kids’ Night, featuring The Jack Snaps, Rockin’ Rob and The School of Rock. The concert is free and open to the public, and takes place in Howard Station Park on S.E. Main Street in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Music in the Park is organized by Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, and sponsors include Amtrak/Missouri River Runner, Bank of Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit Honda and Shining Light Music.
The Jack Snaps write and perform positive music for kids. Children are encouraged to get up and move fast to songs like “Listen to Your Mama” and “The Superman Waltz.” Rockin’ Rob offers interactive, educational entertainment for kids and families. The School of Rock uses a performance-based approach to music lessons which results in students being more inspired to learn, more motivated to excel and more confident.
Local musicians volunteer their time and talent for Music in the Park, which typically takes place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Fridays from May 22 to September 4, in Howard Station Park. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and listen to music, walk around Downtown Lee’s Summit, and visit downtown shops and restaurants. Plenty of shade offers a cool way to enjoy a variety of musical genres, including folk, Celtic, blues, jazz, alternative rock, classic rock and pop. This year’s line-up includes returning seasoned bands, as well as some new artists to Music in the Park.
