Madisen Ward And The Mama Bear to Headline Downtown Days Festival

One of Kansas City’s most celebrated acts, Madisen Ward And The Mama Bear, will feature the full band for a free live performance at Downtown Days on Saturday, June 8th. The mother-son duo of Madisen Ward and Ruth Ward have honed their signature sound, a rootsy blend of folk, soul, gospel and vintage rock, with the release of two studio LPs, Skeleton Crew, and 2018’s The Radio Winners. Hailing from Independence, MO, Madisen Ward And The Mama Bear went from playing small coffee houses to gaining national attention opening for Sufjan Stevens, B. B. King, and showcasing at Bonnaroo. Now they’ve returned to rock their home turf with a special appearance in the heart of Downtown Lee’s Summit.

The Downtown Days festival opens at noon on Friday, June 7th in Downtown Lee’s Summit, and features a carnival, craft beer tents, handcrafted goods, and free live music all weekend long. State Line Drive will kick off the Friday evening entertainment with a country/pop set at the Depot Stage on SE Main Street. The Mixtapes rocked the stage in 2018 and are back to headline on Friday. Their 90s nostalgia-inspired set will feature tunes from the likes of The Cranberries, Nirvana, Third Eye Blind, and maybe even a little TLC.

Saturday morning and afternoon is your chance to catch local theatre and dance performances. Spend the lunch hour with the spooky folk trio Blue False Indigo at 1 p.m. As the sun begins to set, Gas Food Lodging will warm up the crowd with blues-inspired jams just before Madisen Ward And The Mama Bear take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
