Longtime Downtown Supporter Dale Hartley Passes Away
Dale Hartley, longtime Downtown Lee’s Summit business owner and supporter, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015.
Dale owned and operated Hartley’s Furniture at Third and Douglas Streets for more than 50 years. A founding board member and past treasurer of Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, he was honored by DLSMS in 2008 with the creation of the Dale Hartley Service Award in recognition of his years of service to Downtown. The inaugural award recipient was Amy Robertson, co-owner of Cameron’s Home Furnishings. Other past recipients of the Dale Hartley Service Award include Brad Culbertson (2009), Gary Fruits (2010), Ryan Smarr (2011), Steve Tominia (2012), Kathy Smith (2013) and Walter Heid (2014). Dale will be greatly missed, but his legacy will long live on in Downtown Lee’s Summit.
“Dale Hartley was a real pioneer of Downtown. He was always smiling and always ready to lend a hand, no matter what the challenge was. The success of Downtown Lee’s Summit is due to the dedication of people like Dale and Howard McCracken who helped lay the foundation,” said Steve Tominia, past board president of Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street and co-owner of Cameron’s Home Furnishings.
Services for Dale are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015 at Lee’s Summit Christian Church. Visitation begins at 1:30 p.m. and services begins at 3:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Floral Hills East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lee’s Summit Christian Church or Missouri Veterans Home.
