Now Hiring: Farmers Market Assistant Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Assistant Manager to oversee the daily on-site operations of the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market. This role involves managing vendors, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring a smooth, welcoming experience for customers and market participants.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
  • Hours: 16-20 hours per week
  • Required Days:
    • Wednesdays: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
    • Saturdays: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

Vendor Management

  • Coordinate vendor setup and breakdown procedures
  • Ensure vendor compliance with market rules and regulations
  • Address vendor concerns and resolve conflicts professionally
  • Maintain accurate vendor attendance records
  • Communicate market policies and updates to vendors

Volunteer Coordination

  • Manage volunteer shifts
  • Provide orientation and training to new volunteers
  • Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to volunteer team
  • Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions

Daily Operations

  • Arrive early to oversee market setup and vendor arrivals
  • Monitor market activities throughout operating hours
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and permit requirements
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints
  • Coordinate with local authorities as needed
  • Oversee end-of-day cleanup and vendor departure

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain vendor and volunteer records
  • Prepare daily operation report summary
  • Assist with marketing and promotional activities
  • Support special events and seasonal activities
  • Communicate regularly with Market Manager

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in customer service, retail management, or related fields
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Physical capability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
  • Flexibility to handle unexpected situations calmly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in farmers market, outdoor event, or volunteer management
  • Knowledge of local food systems and sustainable agriculture
  • Basic computer skills for record keeping

Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors and indoors in an active farmers market setting. You’ll interact with diverse vendors, volunteers, and community members while managing multiple tasks simultaneously. The role demands early morning starts and physical activity throughout the workday.
