New Permanent Public Art

Downtown Art

Lee’s Summit’s first permanent public art was just installed in Hartley Plaza in Downtown Lee’s Summit, located on SE 3rd Street just east of Douglas.  The three bronze statues by artist Kwan Wu were commissioned by FPC Development & Construction President Kurt Pycior.  Funds for the project were raised through private donations and from the City’s Downtown Art Fund.

The sculptor Kwan Wu has had sculptures displayed at the White House and currently at Kauffman Stadium.  Visit his website to see more examples of his work.

Chapungu in Downtown Lee’s Summit

I stopped by City Hall this morning to check out the Chapungu sculptures now featured outside in the gardens.  According to this article, Tom Lovell of the LS Parks & Recreation Department contacted Powell Gardens about featuring a few of the sculptures at City Hall.

We are so privileged to have this amazing art displayed right here in Downtown Lee’s Summit!  Powell Gardens is featuring over 50 of these world-reknowned sculptures right now – I went a couple of weeks ago and they were truly amazing.  Make sure to visit www.powellgardens.org to learn more about these sculptures.
